Guide to the University of Barcelona

With Barcelona being one of the largest and most popular cities in Spain it is no surprise that it is home to a leading university which is attended by thousands of students.

A field which the University of Barcelona is often associated with is that of research. The university is considered as somewhat of a benchmark institute in Europe as it has conducted a series of successful and insightful research operation over the years which are regarded in high esteem. Despite this reputation, the university has a wide range of courses which cater for students wishing to enter into a variety of fields upon graduating.

As is the case with many large city universities, the cosmopolitan nature of the city of Barcelona is reflected in its university. A large number of the approx 90,000 attendees are international students who are attracted to the University of Barcelonavivacious character of the city, as well as its educational credentials. The approx 90,000 students are supported by around 4,500 staff who help to deliver the approx 250 courses. These courses are a mixture of undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, masters and diplomatures.

The Barcelona University campuses are a mixture of historic buildings and newer purpose built buildings. Some of the buildings have joint purposes, including the art campus which doubles up as a museum. Regular tours of the campus are a good opportunity for potential students to establish whether the university is suitable for them, although with Barcelona having such a fabulous culture and vibrant social scene there isn’t really much thinking to do!!!

Barcelona is a wonderful city to be a student, given that the city has a wonderful nightlife scene for students and with opportunities for weekends on the beach and a city which has plenty to offer for food, live entertainment and attractions, you will not get bored.

In terms of areas of Barcelona to live as a student, areas such as Barceloneta, Gracia and the La Sagrada Familia area are just a few options for places to search for student accommodation.
